Move over GoPro, there’s a new kid on the block. Videographers and outdoor action shooters who are currently using GoPro cameras are going to be thrilled to learn of Nikon’s latest offering.
The new KeyMission 360 is about to take creative camera culling to a whole new level. Nikon’s newest camera provides 4K ultra high definition video from a 360 degree wrap around viewpoint. The camera is small and sporty – small enough to be held within the palm of your hand.
It is waterproof and capable of handling depths of up to 100 feet. That’s 30 metres if you rather. Ruggedly engineered to withstand shocks, dust and low temperatures. Nikon says it can be dropped from almost 7 feet in height (2 metres) with no damage.
It also incorporates vibration reduction within its 2 lens. That’s right 2 lens!
The keymission 360 is really like having 2 cameras in one. It has dual lenses and dual sensors but will provide one single uhd (ultra high def) still photograph or sharp video.
To ensure the camera was kept to a small size it was engineered without a viewfinder. The operator views the dual lens image via a smart phone or similar device receiving the transmitted image via Wifi or Bluetooth from the camera.
Other features also include an integrated microphone, and a non-removable Li-Ion battery. It has a USB 2.0 port and records media on either micro SDHC or SDXC cards.
Early rumours have it selling in the $550 plus US range.
Nikon is calling this puppy part of a new family of action cameras.
I can’t wait to get my hands on it once it hits the market. Virtual Reality may have just arrived at an affordable price.
